  • 9×13-inch baking pan
  • Small offset spatula

Ingredients
  

For the Cake:

  • 3 tablespoons warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 ¾ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

For the Topping:

  • 3 ½ tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Confectioners’ sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Dissolve yeast in warm milk and water. Set aside.
  • Cream butter, sugar, and salt in a stand mixer. Add egg and mix.
  • Gradually add flour, then pour in the yeast mixture. Mix until smooth.
  • Transfer dough to a greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Let rise for 1½–2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • For the topping, mix corn syrup, water, and vanilla. Set aside.
  • Cream butter and sugar for topping, add egg, then flour and salt.
  • Add corn syrup mixture, beat until smooth.
  • Dollop topping on dough, spread evenly.
  • Bake at 375°F for 30–35 minutes. Cool and dust with confectioners’ sugar.
